Constantine Andrew “Stan” Zdanowich
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Stan Zdanowich. Dad died peacefully on the morning of January 5. A longtime resident of El Segundo, California, Stan spent the last seven years living in Ventura, California, with his daughter Teresa.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for some time in March.
Our father was born in Connecticut on January 1, 1924 to parents Adele B. Zdanowich (neé Wroblewsky) and Constantine Zdanowich. He grew up in Hartford and Stamford. After graduating from high school Dad enlisted in the army. He was serving in eastern Europe when WW2 ended.
In 1950 Dad earned a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering from Pratt Institute in New York City. A few years later he went on to earn a Master of Science in Electronics Engineering from University of Southern California.
Dad’s big career opportunity came a few years, and two children, after he graduated from Pratt. He was recruited by Hughes Aircraft for a job in Southern California. Dad and Mom loaded the young Paula and Teresa into the car for the drive across country, a great adventure for the family.
Dad’s career as an Electronics Engineer spanned 35+ years during which he worked for Hughes Aircraft, Litton Industries, and Northrup.
Our parents met at a dance after the war. Jacqueline “Jackie” Rioux became the love of his life. They married the week after he graduated from Pratt. The young couple quickly started a family that came to include three daughters; Paula, Teresa, and Annette; affectionately nicknamed “PTA.”
Tragically, our beautiful, compassionate, and loving mother died of breast cancer in 1959 at the age of 29. Lucky for us kids, Dad choose to keep his children close. He raised us by himself.
Dad was interested in and participated in many clubs and activities. He and mom were active members of The Junior Chamber of Commerce in Gardena, California (where they made many friends). Dad joined The Young Republicans. He was involved in Real Estate selling and investment (he had a Real Estate license), oil and gas drilling investing, and playing poker.
He was avid traveler and reader. He loved swimming in the ocean, and dancing! He golfed, played tennis, rode his bicycle along the coast, and skied all over the world. And he had a wonderful sense of humor.
After losing his wife, Dad became a longtime member of the Parents Without Partners club in the San Fernando Valley. His involvement included many officer roles including president. He was also a decades-long member of the Westwood Ski Club.
Stan is survived by daughters Paula Zdanowich Brown and Teresa Zdanowich, grandchildren Martin Hoogendijk and Jordan Olsen, and niece Jacqueline “Jackie” Blank. He was preceded in death by his lovely and loving wife Jacqueline, his brother Dan Zdanowicz, and his beloved daughter Annette.
